UNIT 7: OUR COUNTRY, OUR CONSTITUTION
SPECIAL SENTENCES:- In democracy you can chose.
With elections you decide members of the government every four years.
- Constitutions sets out instructions on how everyone can act. It organises and limits
the power of the government and protects the basics rights and freedoms of
people.
- Spain is a social and democratic state and the power belongs
to the people. The state must provide: basic education, healthcare, assistance
for people without work…
- Constitution explain the individual rights, freedoms (what you deserve) and
duties (what you have to do).
- Power is divided in the state into executive branch, legislative branch
and judicial branch.
- Executive branch decides the political and economic directions of the government. It is
formed by the Prime Minister and ministers.
- Legislative branch makes and approve laws in the Parliament and is divided into Senate and
Congress of Deputies.
- Judicial branch can interpret laws and decide punishments and are made up of judges and
magistrates.

- The Constitution organized Spain into autonomous cities, provinces and
municipalities.
- Municipalities are the smallest territories with a town council and a mayor. A group
of municipalities are provinces that
have a provincial council.
